Worst case of bed-head ever!

Today, Logan woke up with the worst case of bed-head to date. A few months ago we trimmed the hair above his ears and on his neck (as to prevent the baby-mullet), but Logan's hair has been growing like crazy. So, today is the day of the big haircut!

We had been looking around at places to get their hair cut, and many places in the area offer haircuts for little kids. They have little cars for them to sit in, and TVs to watch. They also charge $15 or more for a haircut (which is usually more than I pay for myself). So, I decided to give it the ole college try. I set up their high chairs in the backyard, put some food on their trays (well, they both needed to be occupied), and went to work on Logan. For those that are interested in trying this on their own kids, allow me to offer my thoughts on the experience:

  1. 16 month olds do NOT like getting haircuts. There's a very good reason these places charge as much as they do. As one who is responsible for trimming the hair on a very skittish little dog (Howie) I can tell you that the skittish little dog is infinitely more patient than a 16 month old.
  2. Little boy hair gets EVERYWHERE. This is precisely why they drape a cloth over you at the barber. Next time I'll remember to strip them down to their diapers before cutting.
  3. There's also a very good reason why barbers don't have you sit in chairs with high backs (like a high chair). Getting to the hair on the back of Logan's head was difficult.
  4. Remember how I said I put food on their trays to keep them busy? Remember also how I said that hair gets everywhere? yeah...
  5. You know how your barber will wet your hair to make it easier to cut? As it turns out, tears work about as well.

Total haircutting time for Howie (with thick hair, sizeable surface area, involving electric trimmers on his back and sides, scissor cutting his face, legs, toes, and underbelly): about half an hour.

Total haircutting time for Logan (thin hair, much less surface area involving scissor cutting and trying to keep him from looking like he just got the worst haircut of his life): about 45 minutes.

I recently watched the video of Marshall's first haircut. His parents also tried distracting him with food. It would have been more effective if Melissa wouldn't have kept stealing his M&Ms.

PS: The haircut looks good!

You know, it's always nicer when someone else does it first. Thanks Aaron! This has really took ANY idea that I had to DIY little boys haircuts!!

Hey, Aaron, if the computer programming doesn't work out, now you have another profession to fall back on. Then again, the stress might get to you..

hhmm, yeah I think I would cry too with a haircut like that. Thats why when I was younger I wouldn't let my brother cut my hair... so I did it myself.

I need some clarification - were the tears Logans or Aarons?

I think it looks great! :)
