Happy half-birthday
Today marks 6 months since Logan and Zach entered the world, and to commemorate the occasion, they got to go to the doctor and get shots! Two in each leg... of each boy. They were none too happy about that, but they got by. We are very happy to report that Logan and Zach are very healthy, and really big for their age. Logan is in the 95th+ percentile in height, while Zach landed in the 75th percentile for height. Yeah, I know what you're thinkging: MY kids, well above average height for their age. I was as shocked as you are! The short explaination: Robyn has some tall relatives.
News
Anyway, it's been an exciting few months. Their finger dexterity has increased quite a bit, so now they can grab at toys and pull pacifiers out of their mouths. Rolling over is a breeze for both of them (we put them on their backs to sleep every night, and we usually find them on their tummies, and in the opposite direction as we placed them, in the morning). And even though his arms aren't strong enough yet, Logan is close to crawling (imagine crawling with your knees and face... that's how he does it now). They are both very excited to be mobile, and would rather have us hold them up in a standing position rather than sitting.
Our most recent exciting new thing is solid food. The rice cereal didn't go over well. (In fact, Zach used a new expression with his face in reaction to it... if I could put it to words, it would be something like "WHY would you feed me wallpaper paste?") We moved on to sweet potatoes, and that's been a winner for the last week. We're going to look into getting a food processor and making our own baby food. Partly for the economic benefit, partly for the reassurance that we know what's going into it, but mostly because I love watching stuff get pulverized!
And they both love to talk! They really are their mother's sons. Any kind of vocalization you can imagine, short of actual words. But, at times, they often sound like words. They also love to emit a high-pitched squeal when they're excited, which the dogs can't stand. The squeal must be getting into the registers beyond human hearing, because the only time Zeke and Howie have reacted like this is when they've heard a dog whistle.
Speaking of the dogs, they continue to behave well around the boys (as patience is not one of the Jack Russell Terrier's strong suits, I'm especially proud of Zeke). Zeke's even been sympathetic a couple of times around crying babies... he'll often whimper or whine if one is crying near him. It's pretty sweet. Zach and Logan find it especially amusing when the dogs fight. Every night, around 7:30 or so, Zeke and Howie like to go at it. They've been doing this forever (especially when newcomers are over). Growling, wrestling, humping (yeah, they're dogs... what do you expect?) for a good half an hour. We noticed it first when Grandma Beeber was over earlier this month. Zach started, and Logan joined in when he noticed. It wasn't the little "tee hee" giggles that we've been getting out of them for the last couple months, but full on gut-busting laughs. It's the funniest and cutest and most endearing thing I've probably ever witnessed in my life. They just get the biggest kick out of it. It's going to be very interesting once these boys become mobile...
