An omission from yesterday's post...
Before I get into it (and there's still not much to get in to), I have to make an addendum to yesterday's news. Robyn wasn't too happy with me for forgetting this one... So they were getting a little anxious yesterday when Robyn's kidneys weren't doing what they were supposed to do, when one nurse remembered something back from her training: "You should have something with caffeine in it." Robyn's eyes apparently got about as big as her tum-tum, and she asked "Is Diet Coke OK?" So the nurse brings her one, which she pounds like she's at the frat-party-to-end-all-frat-parties, and the nurse gets her another.
The part I hate to admit it: it worked. The caffeine stimulated her kidneys, which helped her lose a fair amount of water she had taken on in an effort to stay hydrated.
Enjoy your moment, Robyn. :)
(For those who don't understand the relevance of this, please see the bottom of this prior entry.)
Still nothin'
Robyn spoke with the on-call doctor doctor this morning, who didn't have much to offer. He was followed by the doctor who's in charge of mothers in high-risk situations (like mothers of multiples). The way he explained it to her was that while some of her test results weren't great (high blood pressure and protein) they weren't bad enough to warrant delivering the babies. They're still better off in there, so that's where they'll stay. They want to monitor her for at least another day, and if everything's looking ok then maybe send her home. However, he did throw another set of dice in the mix: he took her off the Terbutaline she's been taking to slow her contractions (thinking it might be increasing her blood pressure). So, it's not too unlikely that her contractions will increase and push her over the edge. Or, they'll increase but not push her into labor. Or, she'll just be pregnant forever (which is her current nightmare).
The good news is, our doctor scheduled a C-Section for her on Nov. 11th. He told us that while chuckling through his teeth... the unspoken joke was that there's not much of a chance of her going that long. I think Robyn's response was a sarcastic "Uh, gee... thanks". (This is the same doctor who gets a kick out of drawing a smiley face with the medical gel before an ultrasound, and upon finding Robyn's pulse with the heartbeat monitor says "ah, and there's the third baby". We like him.)
