I guess I spoke too soon yesterday...
Yeah, should've seen this coming. Here I was, getting all comfortable playing the waiting game, and then at 3:45 this afternoon I got a call from Robyn. She was getting out of her weekly appointment, and on her way to the hospital, where she was to be admitted. Yeah, not another quick 4 hour visit... she's there to stay. At least for a couple of days.
At her appointment, they found a significant amount of protein in her urine. That, combined with her high blood pressure, was all the doctor needed to diagnose Pre-eclampsia. A fun little condition where the kidneys are squished and overworked. In my geeky little head, it's basically the human-anatomy equivalent of a common Star Trek plot:
Kirk: Scotty, we need warp speed now!
Scotty: I can't do it captain. I just don't have the power!
If you've read that wiki article I linked to, you're probably in a frenzy about the health of Robyn and the boys. The good news is that the doctors caught it early. AND, there's a very simply cure for the condition:
Getting the babies outta there.
At this point, they need to monitor her for 24 hours before they can decide whether she can keep going like she is, or if it's severe enough that they need to get the boys out before damage is done to her and them.
I have a feeling that this week will be very interesting...
