Early morning

This morning's doctor visit was at 8:45 in the am. Last night, before going to bed, I couldn't remember if the appointment was at 8:15 or 8:45, so when Robyn told me that she wanted to take off from here at 7:30 I assumed that the appointment was at 8:15, and that giving 45 minutes for the trip would be reasonable.

Now, as a side note, anyone who knows anything about us will tell you this: Robyn HATES to be late for anything. It's probably one of *the* worst things that can ever happen. In her book, if you're early, you're on time, and if you're on time, you're late. I, on the other hand, am late to stuff all the time. Like it's going out of style (and as if I cared about style). Being early always seems to be such a waste of time. If I'm early, I could have slept in that much longer; if I'm on time, I'm early; if I'm late, I'm on time.

Now, generally speaking, getting out to Beaverton at that time in the morning is about as much fun as sitting directly behind a diesel-burning suburban with your mouth firmly around the exhaust pipe (and not the tasty biodiesel variety). Thus the early departure. So we took off at 7:30, but as luck would have it traffic was very light this morning and we get to the doctor's office by 8am. Now I'm thinking that this is great... Robyn's early, so she's not going to feel the need to rush in for whatever reason it is inside her that makes her want to rush in when she's perfectly on time.

I get out of the car and walk over to her (because I drove separately, in order to go straight to work afterwards) and she has a big smile on her face. It's the smile of satisfaction, and something else that I can't quite put my finger on, but I know I've seen before. The conversation, as I remember it, went as follows:

Robyn: Wow, that was a pleasant surprise.
Aaron: Seriously. Well, shall we go in?
Robyn: Why, I don't think they open until 8:30.
Aaron: Then how do we have an appointment for 8:15?
Robyn: It's at 8:45.
Aaron: .....

At this point, Robyn's grin grows to the toothy ear-to-ear variety, as she realizes just how she got me out of the house so early without having an arsenal of tactical nukes at her disposal. I, on the other hand, proceed to say things in front of my boys that wouldn't have been said had they been on the outside.

A smarter husband probably would have not assumed the time on the previous night. On the other hand, one can argue that A wise man once told me what happens when you assume things... and if you haven't heard the cliché before, I'm not about to repeat it here.

It wasn't ALL a waste though... we ended up finding a Starbucks and having a nice morning together. :)

Yet another ultrasound and doctor visit

So after a brief wait, we go in for our ultrasound. Previously our ultrasound technicians have been giggly girls who were crazy excited when they found out we're having twins, take their time to show us things, and oblige us with dozens of pictures. This time we're administered by an scruffy, older man who smelled faintly of tobacco smoke. Now, don't get me wrong, this guy knew what he was doing... he got both boys measured in a matter of a few minutes and we were out of there. We called it the "Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Ma'am" approach.

The good news: babies growth looks pretty good. Baby α was 4 pounds, 4 ounces, and baby β was 3 pounds, 13 ounces. The doctor believes the weight difference is OK at this point, since they both still seem to be growing, but we'll go in next week to keep an eye on it. α is about average for his age, and β is just slightly under, but not dangerously so.

The not-as-good-news was that Robyn's blood pressure was a little high. It's another wonderful "benefit" of having a womb above capacity (or as I affectionately put it, "pumping blood for 3"), but something we'll be keeping an eye on. I picked up an electronic blood pressure tester today, and the first test tonight returned a lower pressure... which is good, and (of course) means MORE BEDREST! :)

So nice to hear that everything is going according to schedule. Now, if we could figure an exact due date, everything would be great! What we do know is that it is getting closer and closer! Yeah! You are on the home stretch now!
