A trip to the hospital was inevitable...
The good news is that there's no need for alarm. Babies are healthy, mommy is healthy. Robyn's in no immediate danger of pre-term labor.
Robyn had started feeling contractions over the weekend. Not too terribly frequent, but more frequent than before. And our OB had told us that Brackston-Hicks contractions and other activity can be a bit more frequent for mothers of twins. They started kickin it up a notch over the weekend, and on Monday (Robyn's first day back at school, no students) they were happening about 5 an hour (the point at which the doc told us to call in at). So Robyn called, and the advice nurse gave her the "yeah, you'd better come in just to be safe" line. So Robyn went out to St. Vincent's, and I met up with her shortly after, and the mood turned from the leisurely one it started as to "It's a good thing you came in when you did" after they hooked her up to the monitors and saw that she was actually having one about every 3 minutes, and that she was only really feeling about 5 of them. So, they gave her a little shot of something that calmed her down, and an I.V. to hydrate her. They also gave her a test <horrific details omitted> that serves as a 72-hour indicator to labor, which turned out negative (which is good).
4 hours later we were discharged with a doctor's note that got Robyn out of school, which means that yesterday was her first and last day of school for this year. She's on pretty strict bedrest right now, so if you'd like to keep her entertained, send her an email:
